1.1 Background of the Study
Environmental degradation is a pressing issue in many parts of Nigeria, and Tureta Local Government Area (LGA) in Sokoto State is no exception. Factors such as deforestation, soil erosion, and pollution have resulted in the destruction of the natural environment, affecting both the community's livelihoods and the surrounding ecosystems. Despite the severity of these environmental challenges, there is often insufficient public awareness or action to address them. Photography, as a powerful visual medium, has the ability to document and communicate the impact of environmental degradation in compelling ways. By capturing the consequences of environmental neglect and the beauty of undisturbed ecosystems, photography can draw attention to the urgency of environmental protection efforts. This study examines how photography can be used to highlight environmental degradation in Tureta LGA, exploring its potential in raising awareness and encouraging sustainable practices.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
In Tureta LGA, environmental degradation continues to worsen, but there is limited awareness or engagement on the part of the public and policymakers. While other forms of advocacy exist, photography has not been fully utilized as a tool to visually depict the severity of the situation. This study aims to investigate how photography can serve as an effective medium for highlighting environmental degradation and fostering community involvement in conservation efforts.

1.4 Research Questions
1.5 Research Hypotheses
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it demonstrates the power of photography as a tool for environmental advocacy. By capturing and sharing images of environmental degradation, photography can generate public interest and inspire action to protect the environment. The study can contribute to the broader conversation on sustainable environmental practices and highlight the role of visual media in raising awareness.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on the role of photography in highlighting environmental degradation in Tureta LGA, Sokoto State. The research is limited to the use of photography as an advocacy tool and does not extend to other forms of environmental education or interventions.
